In 1998 share & care was overwhelmed by an abundance of donations. Instead of throwing away tonnes of clothes, we began setting aside bundles of goods for poor countries in western Africa. We sent our first full shipping container of these bundles - or bales - to a contact in Ghana. The clothes sold so quickly that door of hope was founded to continue the work. We have been shipping containers ever since.
Money earned in-country is used by our partners to help people in need. We work with churches and missionary organizations all over the world. Our partners purchase the containers for a very low price and sell the goods for profit to fund their efforts.
Our passion is to support groups who recognize the incredible power of the gospel as a community development tool. We strive to build relationships with faith-based organizations who want to bring economic, spiritual and physical transformation to their communities.
In any case, financial accountability is our highest priority. We maintain close ties with our contacts to make sure that the money earned from the sale of goods is being used to fund micro-enterprise programs, build infrastructure or otherwise benefit the poor. We believe that instilling good financial accountability is a vital step in the development of a region.
Ghana is a country we sense God leading us to. Our contact there is very devoted to microenterprise development. We hope to visit him in the coming months to see how door of hope can help support his work.
Our work in Sierra Leone is based on our relationship with Prayer Tabernacle Church. Our containers are enabling them to construct their church in Freetown as well as support more than 15 daughter churches in various parts of the country.
